Terms of Service

Effective October 23, 2026

These terms cover your use of Beckon, a free Mac app made by Daniel Yakobian, and this website. By downloading or using Beckon you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use it.

Free, and provided as is

Beckon is free. It's provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. I don't promise that it will work, keep working, or ring any particular device at any particular time. Don't rely on it in an emergency.

Unofficial, and not from Apple

Beckon is an independent app. It isn't made, endorsed or supported by Apple. It works by signing in to Apple's Find My web service, which is undocumented and can change or stop working at any time, and Beckon may stop working with it.

Automating iCloud may conflict with Apple's iCloud terms. Use Beckon only with your own Apple Account and your own devices, and at your own risk. You're responsible for your use of Apple's services under Apple's terms.

Your account

You're responsible for your Apple Account, its password and the devices you ring, and for keeping your Mac secure. Apple may email you, ask you to verify your account, or lock it after repeated failed sign-ins; Beckon deletes a saved password Apple rejects so it doesn't keep retrying, but I can't control what Apple does.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, devices, access to your Apple Account, or profits, arising from your use of Beckon or this website, even if I've been told such damage is possible. My total liability for any claim relating to Beckon is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Source code

Beckon's source code is published on GitHub so you can see how it works, including how it signs in. Publishing the source doesn't by itself grant an open-source license.

Trademarks

Apple, iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, AirTag, Mac, iCloud and Find My are trademarks of Apple Inc. Beckon uses these names only to describe what it works with.

Changes

I may update these terms. The new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and its history is public in Beckon's GitHub repository. Using Beckon after a change means you accept the updated terms.
